Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (optional)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder (optional)
  • 2 to 3 tbsp cocoa powder (optional)

Equipment

Method

  1. Prepare the oven and pan
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a square baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until evenly combined.
  3. Add the wet ingredients
Pour in the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir gently until the batter is smooth and fully combined. Avoid overmixing.
  4. Bake
Transfer the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 22–25 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  5. Cool completely
Remove from the oven and allow the squares to cool fully in the pan before slicing.
  6. Optional topping
If using, mix powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and warm milk until smooth. Spread lightly over the cooled squares.
  7. Slice and serve
Cut into even squares and serve.
